P7 trip to The Midlands

The 4.15am start did not dampen the enthusiasm of our P7 pupils as they set off last Tuesday morning for their residential trip to The Midlands. Accompanied by 7 teaching staff, the group travelled to Dublin before boarding the ferry to Holyhead in Wales. A lunch stop at Pili Palas Butterfly Farm helped to break up the long journey to Walsall where they were to be based. During the week the pupils visited Cadbury World where they found out about the history of Cadbury's chocolate and how the family business had grown and expanded over the decades. The children were treated to some ‘samples' before finishing the tour with a 4D Adventure Ride. Next up was the ThinkTank Science Museum which began with a forensics workshop. The children worked as a team and used the evidence given to work out which character robbed the jewellery store - young detectives in the making! A tour of the museum followed, looking at examples of early engines and a variety of classic cars and motorbikes amongst other things. After dinner in the hotel, the girls and boys made the short journey to Adventure Island Mini-Golf. They were split into teams of 4-6 and made their way around the 18 hole crazy-golf course, testing their putting skills and trying to score an illusive hole-inone.

The next day was the day the pupils were looking forward to the most. A full day in Drayton Manor Theme Park meant fun and excitement and the chance to challenge themselves on some of the many rides. Of course, Thomas Land proved very popular with rides and activities for everyone. Too soon, it was time to pack and come home. A full day's travel lay ahead with a brief stop at Llandudno Retail Park for some gifts, souvenirs or a welcomed coffee. After a long and tiring journey everyone arrived safely back at school and into the arms of waiting parents. Everyone had a brilliant time and we would like to thank the children for their super manners and behaviour over the week. We received many compliments from the hotel staff and other adults we met along the way. Well done boys and girls.

A word of thanks also to the staff who went on this residential and those who went on the P6 one. The staff give freely of their time to look after, cared for and have fun with our pupils and there were many happy memories made for both staff and pupils alike! A special word of thanks to Mr Kennedy for organising and overseeing the Midlands trip and Mr McAllister the YMCA trip. Your kind words of gratitude to our staff and tokens of appreciation are very much appreciated!
