P6 Newtownabbey Cup Football Tournament

On Tuesday, a team of P6 pupils travelled to the Valley V36 pitches to compete in the Newtownabbey P6 Cup Football Tournament. We began the day with a 2-0 win against Whitehouse PS. In a tightly contested opener, both teams had chances to open the scoring but superb goalkeeping from Elijah Adair helped maintain the deadlock. However, Cooper Lambe eventually scored the opener from distance, placing his well-struck shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. Austin Adair scored the second, receiving a pass from Euan Lannie in midfield, before turning his marker and striking the ball past the goalkeeper. In our second game against Ballyhenry PS, Jude Semple put Fairview 1-0 up inside just 15 seconds, latching on to a high ball over the top from Ollie Wilson. Soon after, Austin Adair scored his second of the day to make it 2-0 as a clearance from Samuel Logan beat the Ballyhenry defence and left him one-on-one with the 'keeper. From a Ballyhenry corner, Austin raced on to a long ball through the middle and slotted it past the goalkeeper to score his pmatthews653@c2kni.net Newsletter No. 29 www.fairviewps.co.uk 12th April 2019 second of the game and Fairview's third. Ollie Wilson squeezed his low drive under the goalkeeper to make it 4-0 before Joshua Tweed scored from distance into the top corner after receiving a great pass from defender Robbie Smith. Ollie Wilson scored two more goals in quick succession to claim his hat-trick and round off a 7-0 win. We faced Glengormley PS in our next match who defended resolutely for the majority of the game. Austin, Jude and Ollie all had shots well-saved by the Glengormley goalkeeper. Fairview eventually took the lead when Joshua's initial strike rebounded off the bar but fell to the feet of Austin Adair who made no mistake to make it 1-0. Fairview's lead was doubled in the final minute when an errant back-pass from the Glengormley defender beat the 'keeper at his near post to make it 2-0. In the 4th and final group game against Carnmoney PS, Elijah Adair and the defensive partnership of Noah Bell, Samuel Logan and Cameron Todd were kept busy in the early exchanges. However, Austin Adair continued his super goal-scoring streak and scored the opener on the counter-attack. He quickly followed this up with his second a few minutes later after a super run down the wing by Cooper Lambe. Joshua Tweed scored an excellent first time volley from distance before Austin completed his hat-trick, scoring his third goal of the game to make it 4-0. This meant we finished as group leaders and would face King's Park PS in the final as winners of the other group.

In the final, both teams had chances early on. Austin beat his marker on the right but his shot went high over the bar. Elijah made an excellent save at the other end as the King's Park team kept the Fairview defenders busy. From a King's Park corner, the Fairview team conceded their first goal of the day. The ball looped over the head of Elijah in goal, assisted by the wind and dropped in at the back post to make it 1-0. The Fairview boys pushed hard for an equaliser but the King's Park defence proved strong, blocking efforts from Ollie, Austin and Jude. Austin Adair breached the defence in the dying seconds of the game but his powerful strike was acrobatically saved by the King's Park goalkeeper. Final Score: Fairview 0-1 Kings Park

Well done boys, you did fantastically well to get to the final.
