Covid-19

Following the Government’s Cobra meeting yesterday, the decision was taken to keep schools open in Northern Ireland - at the minute. The advice to schools from the Department of Education has been sparse but we continue to follow the advice from the PHA shared with you in our newsletter over the last couple of weeks. Thorough hand washing is key to preventing the spread of Covid-19 and as a school we are frequently reminding our pupils of the need to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds or whilst singing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice.

Given yesterday’s new advice from the Government and the PHA, any child with a fever and a persistent cough must remain at home for 7 days and must not return to school until the symptoms have gone and the 7 day isolation period is over.

Whilst we will continue to follow all advice shared with us, now that we are in the ‘delay’ phase, we are preparing for a possible school closure which may yet come. I would like to reassure you that as a school we will:

• Share work for your child with you via the SeeSaw app which most parents have signed up to. If you haven’t yet signed up to this then please send a note to your child’s teacher on Monday or Tuesday requesting a log in.

• Communicate with you via the school email system, text message or website. Please ensure we are aware of any recent change of details.

• Continue to take advice re school events and trips in the event of school not being closed.

We will keep you informed as we get information through.
