                                          LEGO / K'NEX

Primary 4 LEGO is a fun club on a Thursday afternoon. It is supervised by Mrs Houston. Children are given the opportunity to create, experiment and explore with LEGO bricks. They are given a number of different challenges which helps to promote their creativity and develop their thinking skills.

Over the past few weeks we have been constructing some beautiful houses, gardens, swimming pools, boats, cars and even some lovely animals! It has been such a busy time for all our Primary 4 Lego constructors. What fun we have had building our designs too!

K'NEX club takes place on a Thursday afternoon in Room 10. It is for Primary 6 pupils and has a limited number of spaces. Mrs Houston is the teacher in charge of this after school activity.

Children are given a challenge to work on using K'NEX. This may range from making a simple butterfly with flapping wings, to engineering an item that will twist, swivel or travel.

Children are encouraged to plan and design their project first, then make it in line with their design. They are encouraged to work together to solve simple mechanical problems, improve and modify their designs along the way.

Recently a group of children have been working on designing a buggy that will carry a teddy safely. The design must include a seatbelt and handle. Further challenges will encourage the children to modify their buggy to allow it to travel down a slope and stop on the slope - for this a break must be added to the buggy.

This club allows the children to develop their thinking skills and problem solving, encourage planning and aid communication in small group situations.

So far we have been having a great time developing all of our skills. We have also had the opportunity to construct a small roller coaster, rockets and even a windmill structure!
