School Council Election

The day after the UK went to the polls to elect new MPs, Fairview pupils had the much tougher and more important job of electing new School Councillors! All pupils from P3 to P6 got to vote for their representative on School Council next year.

It was a great experience for the pupils, with the actual polling booths still in place and a real ballot box for the confidential vote. We were delighted to welcome our new MP for South Antrim, Mr Paul Girvan, to come and speak to the pupils and explain the importance of democracy.

Results were delivered to all the classes involved by Mr McAllister and his team of assistants during the afternoon. It was a nervous wait for the candidates but all three names on each ballot paper will have an important job next year, with the winner being elected as School Council rep and the runners-up getting the role of Class Council Chairperson and Deputy Class Council chair. The thirteen new Councillors will be announced on the Council Chronicle next week.

Well done to all those ‘outgoing’ councillors who have done a tremendous job this year. The Chair (Oliver Woodside) and Secretary (Zoe Young) gave an account of their year in office to the Governors on Wednesday night; they were very impressed with what the School Council has done this year. Good job, everyone!
