STEM Challenge

Primary 6 were delighted to take part in a STEM challenge this week, hosted by Drumlin Co-Operative who own the wind turbine our Eco Committee have shares in.  The pupils got to learn about renewable energy, find out about wind power and where Drumlin have their turbines in NI and finally build their own wind turbine.  The STEM challenge really inspired all the pupils, working in groups of 3.  Out of almost 30 models made, every one was different with some very creative designs.  Our two visiting scientists who led the day were very impressed with our pupils’ design and building skills.  Well done P6!  Three groups will get the chance to showcase their skills at the celebration event at Stormont on 17th April.

“I loved building the turbine.  It was great fun getting to saw and use the glue gun.” Mark McCroary

“I enjoyed working as a group.  We came up with the idea to have our turbine turning to catch the wind.  It was a really fun challenge.” Harry Scott
