P6 Residential Trip to Greenhill YMCA

Last week, 62 of our P6 pupils made the trip to Newcastle, Co. Down for the annual residential.  The pupils stayed for two nights and enjoyed various activities such as bouldering, canoeing, laser tag, zip wire, climbing and abseiling.  The YMCA staff interacted really well with our pupils and were glowing in their praise of their behaviour and participation with the activities.  Although some of the activities were scary, even for the teachers, it was great to see so many step outside their comfort zone and take the plunge (literally in some cases!).  As well as activities, pupils did some walking on the trails around the YMCA centre.  On the Thursday night, 62 pupils could be heard singing ‘It’s Fun to Stay at the YMCA’ at the top of a hill in the Mournes at 10.30pm!!  On the Wednesday night, the local ice-cream shop did a roaring trade as the group took a walk along the promenade.  Overall, the trip was a wonderful experience.  Our P6 pupils were a credit to the school and will have made many memories, as well as new friends, over the course of the three days.

‘My best memory was watching a movie in my PJs with my friends’.  Shannon Massey

‘I loved the zip wire because at the top you get secured and then when you let go it feels like you are flying!’         Ruby Foster

‘I really enjoyed the night walk and laughing with my friends’.  Martha Mussen
