Football Team off to a winning start

On Wednesday, the senior football team took part in a tournament organised by Burns Soccer School in Carrickfergus. In the group stages, Fairview drew 0-0 with King's Park PS in their opening match before beating St. Nicholas' PS 2-0, goals from Josh Moore and Logan McWilliams. In the final group game, Fairview beat Woodlawn PS 3-0, goals coming from Andrew Wilson (2) and Calum Adams. In the semi-final, a close game against The Lynn PS ended in a 0-0 draw, however, Fairview progressed after winning 3-2 on penalties. Successful penalties were scored by Josh Moore, Calum Adams and Logan McWilliams.

The final was a repeat of the opening group fixture against King's Park PS. This time Fairview took an early lead. A through ball from Calum Conn found Andrew Wilson on the left hand side of goal who turned inside the defender and placed his shot into the bottom corner of the net. Dylan Turkington, Calum Conn and Andrew Wilson all had chances to extend the lead while Ben Vance, Logan McWilliams and goalkeeper Tom Fleming worked tirelessly to maintain the narrow advantage against a well-organised King's Park team. However, Fairview held out to win the tournament. Congratulations also to Tom Fleming who was named as 'Player of the Tournament' after making a series of great saves and was unbeaten from open play all day.
